Dear
Parents and Families,
I
can not believe we have already finished the first week of school! This was a very exciting week. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know
each and every child in 3C. Thank you
again for allowing me the opportunity to teach your scholar this year. I am a very lucky teacher!
I
wanted to remind parents that the assessments we took this week were pre-tests
to give teachers baseline data. These assessments will not be factored into the
students’ grades.
Week 2
Assessments
Monday-none
Tuesday-none
Wednesday-Little House on the Prairie, look for a
study guide on Tuesday (the questions are the same ones we have been doing for
comprehension as we go through the book so students will already be familiar)
Thursday-
Geography, look for the study guide which will come home on Monday
Friday-Science
Quiz
We
will have a math assessment next Monday, August 24th.
Poem
Recitation
will be on Friday September 4th.
Students are expected to recite the poem on that day. The criteria will be as follows:
Posture
(stand tall, face forward, no fidgeting, arms hanging loosely at sides)
Voice
(volume, consistent speed, inflection and intonation)
Confidence
(absence of ums and pauses, eye contact, complete recitation)
Please
help your scholar practice at home!
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
Whose woods these are I think
I know.
His house is in the village
though;
He will not see me stopping
here
To watch his woods fill up
with snow.
My little horse must think it
queer
To stop without a farmhouse
near
Between the woods and frozen
lake
The darkest evening of the
year.
He gives his harness bells a
shake
To ask if there is some
mistake.
The only other sound’s the
sweep
Of easy wind and downy
flake.
The woods are lovely, dark
and deep,
But I have promises to
keep,
And miles to go before I
sleep,
And miles to go before I
sleep.
Subject Overview
Literature
We will continue reading
Little House on the Prairie. On
Wednesday we will have a
quiz on chapters 1-6. By the end of the week we will have finished
chapter 7 “The
Wolf Pack”. Ask your student to summarize what they have
been reading in class
with you. Here are some other questions you can ask
your scholar:
What is your favorite part?
Which character is your
favorite? Why?
Do any of the characters show
a core virtue? How do they show it?
What have you learned from
reading the book so far?
What do you think is going to
happen next?
Were you able to make any
personal connections to the story?
Spalding
We will continue working on
cursive hand writing and will begin our Spalding rule
pages.
Grammar/Writing
We will be discussing
synonyms, antonyms, and analogies this week.
Science
We will continue discussing
the scientific method. We are going to cover
independent and dependent
variables, conduct another experiment, and prepare for
Friday’s quiz.
History
We will continue on the topic
of geography. We will go into latitude
and longitude
as well as the Equator and
Prime Meridian. Then we will review and
study for
Thursday’s quiz. We will
begin looking at the compass rose and discussing
directions after our
quiz.
Math
We will continue with the
important topic of place value. Students
will deepen their
understanding of numbers by
manipulating, comparing, ordering, and rounding
numbers up to 10,000.
