Quarter 1 Week 8

Happy Monday 3C!

I hope you all had a restful and relaxing weekend! The weather seems to be finally cooling down and I was able to enjoy some time outside with my family!




This week will be a shortened week with NO SCHOOL on FRIDAY!

Language Arts:
Students should continue to memorize “Eletelephony” as the recitation is on Wednesday the 27th. We will read chapters 32-34 of Pinocchio. In grammar and writing we will be learning figures of speech in preparation for a descriptive writing project. Since there is no school on Friday, the spelling test will be on Thursday!

Math:
We will be learning how to use bar models to solve multiplication and division word problems. There will be a quiz on Thursday!

Science:
We have a busy week ahead! We are starting Monday with a scavenger hunt with fun facts about mammals. Tuesday we will be creating a flip book that they will be able to review for an upcoming assessment on Thursday October 5th!  We will end our short week with a review of our science study guides and best studying strategies!

History:

This week in history we will present our Canada projects! We will also be testing our knowledge on what we have learned about Canada so far! Please be on the lookout for a study guide going home on Monday. The test will be Thursday, so please don’t turn in your study guide until then!

Quarter 1 Week 7

The big event is this week! Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, the 20th from 6:00-7:00. That evening we will be holding Math and Phonics night. We will be here to show you to how to help your child at home with homework and new concepts in the areas of language arts and math!

Language Arts:
Students should continue to memorize “Eletelephony” as the recitation is on Wednesday the 27th. We will read chapters 28-31 of Pinocchio. In grammar and writing we will begin reviewing the writing process as we aim to perfect the paragraph and move into multi-paragraph essays by quarter 2.

Math:
There will be a Unit 2 test over addition and subtraction (involving word problems) on Tuesday the 19th. Following the exam, we will begin Unit 3 covering multiplication and division. The unit will begin with a review from 2nd grade.

Science:
Students will begin the week with a quiz covering Fish, Amphibians and Reptiles. We are beginning the tale end of our Mr. Fab packet and ending with mammals! The students will watch parts of a documentary on ostriches! Scholars will also work on creating a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting 3 different types of mammals.

History:

This week in history we will continue to learn about Canada! We will learn about wars, different provinces, Canada’s independence, and more about their culture! The students should continue working on their Canada project that will be due September 25th.

Quarter 1 Week 6

It is incredible how quickly the weeks are flying by, our scholars are continuing to grow in responsibility as well as become good citizens of our classroom! Last week we thoroughly enjoyed our Grandparent's Day celebration, it was so wonderful to see the student's in awe of the stories the Grandparent's had from their time in school! The scholars also enjoyed drawing out the fish they had written about in the previous week, we have some talented artist's in 3C! 

Picture day is this week on Thursday, the 14th so make sure you come to school looking your best!

Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, the 20th from 6:00-7:00. That evening we will be holding Math and Phonics night. We will be here to show you to how to help your child at home with homework and new concepts in the areas of language arts and math!

Language Arts:
Students should continue to memorize “The Crocodile” as the recitation is on Wednesday the 13th. We will read chapters 24-27 of Pinocchio and begin an opinion essay about the book which will result in an assessment score for both Literature and Writing. In grammar, will learn about the four types of sentences, proper nouns, and paragraph editing.

Math:
In math, we will review subtraction and learn how to borrow from 3 place values. The Wednesday math groups will serve as a review and there will be a quiz afterwards. After Wednesday, we will work on two-part word problems and quiz over them on Friday after a review practice session. Looking forward there will be a Unit 2 test over addition and subtraction (involving word problems) on Tuesday the 19th.

Science:
This week we will continue learning about the life cycle of amphibians as well as working on persuasive writing to choose the best class (mammals, reptiles, etc). There will be a quiz friday over amphibians.

History:
This week in history we are going to begin learning about Canada! We will learn about the different provinces, the culture, and history of Canada! The students will be bringing home a paper explaining the Canada project that will be due September 25th.

Quarter 1 Week 5

Happy Tuesday 3C! I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend filled with rest and relaxation. We enjoyed the weekend with family as we celebrated my grandfather's birthday! I missed our scholars and am looking forward to the week ahead!

This past week we worked in groups on our science project in class, and did a wonderful job writing paragraphs on different types of fish! Students continued to add to their project by drawing their fish in class today.

We also had a student bring in an interesting owl feather the found in their backyard, thank you Tichelle for sharing!

Grandparents Day is this Friday! We are excited to see any Grandparents that can make it at the assembly and back in the classroom for story time.  

Also, progress packets went home on Friday! Please be sure to look over those and return the signed half sheet with any comments. Thank you!

Language Arts:
For a four day week, we will sure be busy! To make up for lost time, we will be learning 15 spelling words on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thank you parents for assisting with the practice spelling test this last Thursday. Your involvement is so vital and appreciated! Be on the lookout for a practice test again this Thursday! In Pinocchio, we will be reading chapters 19-23. “Show, not tell” is the name of the game this week in writing as our scholars learn to appeal to the senses in their writing. We have covered the basic parts of speech in grammar and there will be an assessment on Friday. All of our grammar time this week is dedicated to review, but there will be a study guide sent home so the class knows exactly what to expect.

Math:
We will continue our study of bar models through word problems this week. Our Wednesday math groups will be dedicated to word problems and bar modeling as well and there will be a quiz afterwards on the subject. On Thursday and Friday, we will be reviewing addition with renaming and take a short quiz to assess their mastery on Friday.

Science:
This week we will finish up discussing fish with a fun art activity. Students will draw their favorite fish as well as correctly name it  and write facts about the fish. We will continue to learn all about amphibians this week through our reading and writing!.

History:
This week in history we are going to continue learning about rivers! We will see how rivers can be a source of trade. We will also be taking a quiz on what we have learned about rivers so far on Thursday. Be on the lookout for the rivers study guide going home on Tuesday!
