Quarter 3 Week 8

Dear Parents,

This quarter is flying by!  We had a very busy and productive week here in 3C in our 4 short days.  I am looking forward to the last two weeks of the quarter.  Quarter 4 has some of my favorite units of the year so I am really looking forward to it!

Best,

Mrs. Bowers

Announcements
  1. Our explorers writing project is well underway! To clarify, the only supplies students need to bring in is the optional binder; we have plenty of card stock and string to bind the books in class. Students have the option of either drawing or printing a picture of their explorers voyage.
A Look in the Classroom

  1. Language Arts/History: We are continuing our joint History and Writing project this week by polishing up our Juan Ponce de Leon essays and diving into research on Henry Hudson. In Spalding we have a 20 word list as our monthly benchmark will be taken on Wednesday. We’re still enjoying The Adventures of Isabel and will recite this poem at the end of March in small groups. We are learning a great deal of lessons from The Little Price as he details his adventures on different planets.
  2. Science: We will continue our study of light and optics. This week we will delve more into the electromagnetic spectrum with a fun activity. Additionally, we will be discussing the human eye and how it works. We will also compare the parts of the eye to a camera for a better understanding of the various parts.
  3. Math: This week we will be continuing our Geometry unit that we started on Friday of last week. We will discuss angles, 2D, and 3D shapes! Our final assessment of the quarter will be on Friday and it will cover the four geometry lessons that are a part of this unit.
Assessments
  1. Friday: Math and Spelling Test

Please let me know if there is anything I can help with.

A Look in the Classroom
  1. Language Arts/History: Our combined writing/history project is underway! Students have been working on their note-taking skills in gathering important information about Juan Ponce de Leon, and this week they will start organizing their information in defined paragraphs. By Friday, students will have written rough drafts of their first essays and started work on their illustrations. The next explorer to be studied will be Henry Hudson, best known for discovering New York's Hudson River. We will have a shortened Spalding list due to the short week and we continue our journey with The Little Prince. Madame Gebara is complimenting this unit by reading the French version in her class!
  2. Math: We are finishing up our time unit with a test on Thursday. On Friday we will dive into angles!
  3. Science: We will be discussing the electromagnetic spectrum, color, and doing a hand-on mirror activity.
