Important Dates

Dearest 3C Parents,

The front office would like to remind you that the last day of school before the winter break is Wednesday, December 21st.  The 20th and the 21st are half days, which means that third grade will be let out at 12:05.

Winter break runs from Thursday, December 22nd-Sunday January 8th.  School will resume on Monday, January 9th.

Additionally, evaluations will be sent to parents on Friday, January 6th at noon.

Please let me know if you have any questions!  I am looking forward to a fun final week that will include our Ancient Rome themed celebration on Tuesday!!

Please send your scholar in with a sturdy bag to store their things on the hooks over break so the maintenance crew will be able to clean out the desks thoroughly before we return to school.

When we resume school in January we will be reading our next novel, "The Trumpet of the Swan".  Students can bring them in next week if you have them already, or feel free to send them in on Monday, the 9th!

Best,

Mrs. Bowers

Tax Credit

To 2nd and 3rd grade families:

We are holding a grade-level team competition called “Royalty for a Day” to see who can bring in the most tax credits to support Archway Arete’s extracurricular clubs and sports.  If 2nd and 3rd grades bring in the most tax credits, I will be crowned “Queen of Sports” for a day when we return from our holiday break.  As the Queen, I plan on holding a dodge ball tournament for all my royal subjects!  I will also hand out a special treat at the end of the tournament.  I appreciate all your help in asking friends, neighbors, and family to help support Archway Arete and help us win this competition!

Most Gratefully, Coach Rubino, Queen of Sports

Dear 3C Parents and Families,

Winter break is upon us!  I had such a great week with your scholars.  We all enjoyed getting a chance to see everyone's beautiful work on their Pinocchio projects.  We have also been enjoying our math unit on probability, a fun change from the months of work on long division.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Best,

Mrs. Bowers

Announcements

  1. Please send your scholar to school with a sturdy bag, reusable grocery bags work best. We will be using these to hold all of the supplies in their desks over break to make some room for cleaning. ðŸ˜Š
  2. Winter Break is R & R and rightfully so! 3C has extended so much love and hard work into our studies this year, we've discussed the great value of rest with our loved ones. I will be sending home a winter break reading challenge next week that is entirely optional.
  3. Our Rome celebration is on Tuesday, December 20th, the sign up can be found here.
  4. We will begin quarter 2 with The Trumpet of the Swan, please send your scholar to school with their copy. I have just recently come into several copies of the book so if your scholar needs to borrow one of mine, please just let me know.
  5. Class wish list items include: Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, paper towels, and tissue. If anyone is able to send their scholar in with these items upon our return from break I would be most grateful.
A Look in the Classroom
  1. Language Arts: With our Pinocchio journey at an end, we will spend some time enjoying the classic fairy tale Hansel and Gretel next week. We will review parts of speech with a fun winter activity and create original skits with snowmen as our main characters. You will not see Spalding homework next week as we will use the last 3 days of the semester to review words from past spelling tests and lend some time to phonogram review.
  2. Science: Our last week of quarter 2 will be spent enjoying further discussion on bones and muscles. This review will be highlighted with a fun video.
  3. History: Next week we will have our second quiz for our Rome unit. Students will receive a short study guide on Monday and will take the quiz on Tuesday. There is also a Quizlet available; click here to access it. (Similar to our last history test, we suggest using the flashcard feature with the definitions being prompted first.) We are very excited for our Roman feast and celebration; it's always such a blast to see the kiddos walking around in their togas!
  4. Math: Students received a study guide this past Wednesday to help them prepare for Monday's cumulative assessment. This will provide good preparation, so please help your scholar along! We will finish off the semester with fun and laughter, playing math games that reflect everything we have learned so far.
Assessments
  1. Monday: Math Test
  2. Tuesday: Rome Quiz

Week of December 12th

Dearest 3C Parents and Families,

We had another busy and productive week in 3C!  The time between Thanksgiving and Winter Break always flies by and this year is no different.  This week we finished Pinocchio and started our final math unit of the quarter.  I am so excited to see the Pinocchio projects that the students have worked so hard on next week.  They are always such a treat to see.  Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Best,

Mrs. Bowers

Announcements
1.    Sweater weather is upon us! Please be sure that your scholar's sweater has their name in it, they are easy to track that way and it can prevent them from getting sent to the lost and found. I've seen some parents use a piece of masking or painters tape to clearly label the sweater inside, this method seems to work well!
2.    Pinocchio project is due Monday, details can found here.

Wish List
1.    'Tis the season for Tissues and Hand Sanitizer!

A Look in the Classroom

1.    Language Arts: We are reading about Roman Gladiators in writing and creating original paragraphs to summarize the reading. We will have a 20 word Spalding list this week and we are taking the time to review past words and dwelling a bit longer on some of the more complex words we are learning earlier in the week. We are putting a lovely cap at the end of our Pinocchio project by sharing the marionettes everyone has so lovingly created. We will have a grammar quiz on Wednesday to review our knowledge of nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions.
2.    Science: This week in Science we will be reviewing our human body unit on the skeletal system and muscular system.  On Monday we will create a study guide together as a class.  We will spend the rest of the week reviewing concepts through games, activities, and videos.  On Friday the students will have an assessment.  A quizlet for this assessment can be found here: https://quizlet.com/_2tkp94
3.    Math: Students will continue their study of data analysis by observing probability. They will be conducting and observing simple experiments, creating their own tables and graphs to model the information. On Friday students will review for their final math assessment of the quarter on Monday; look out for a study guide to help them prepare!
4. History: Students have completed an assessment about Julius Caesar and the early history of the Roman empire; now they will start to learn about the culture of ancient Rome. They will see marvels of Roman architecture, read about gladiators and chariot races, and understand the roles of women and children in Roman society.

December 5th-9th

Dearest 3C Parents,

We had a very productive week in 3C!  I hope you are all enjoying this busy, but fun time of the year.  Below is an update on what we will be doing next week.

Best,

Mrs. Bowers

1.    We will be having a math assessment on Monday. homework for Friday consists of a study guide for this. The test will be in the same format and cover the same concepts.
2.    Pinocchio project due date, December 12th is quickly approaching. Please reach out to me if I can help clarify any directions. The assignment can be found here.

A Look in the Classroom

1.    Science: This week we will be learning about muscles. The students will differentiate between voluntary and involuntary muscles, learn the names of some of the major muscles in the human body, and do an activity to show the contraction of muscles. It is sure to be a fun week in Science!
2.    History: Students will finish their study of the incredible story of Julius Caesar, and on Tuesday there will be a review day for a test on Thursday. A study guide will come home on Tuesday afternoon, and we have prepared a Quizlet for students to use as an additional study resource. Please note: there are True/False and Multiple Choice questions for this test. This Quizlet will work best in the Flashcard setting, with students being prompted by the definition instead of the term.

3. Math: A math test is scheduled for Monday; please help your scholar prepare by going over the assignment sent home for homework today. We will begin our last unit of the quarter on Tuesday, which is data analysis. Students will learn how to read and interpret data presented to them in tables and graphs, as well as start making their own!

4. Language Arts: We will be spending a great deal of time discussing prepositional phrases and diagramming them. Pinocchio is just about to finally learn the lessons we have been hoping for as we quickly come to an end of this wonderful book. We will have a 30 word Spalding list.
