Hello Parents!

I hope you're all well as we rapidly approach summer break. We're starting some wonderful activities on Wednesday afternoons to review our 3rd grade curriculum and fully embrace the joy and leisure of learning.

2. Clorox Wipes

A Look in the Classroom

1.    We will have our final monthly Spalding benchmark of the year and have a 20 word spelling list this week. We will take a bit of time to review The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and begin a short fairy tale unit to finish off the year. In Grammar we are learning how to diagram interjections and creating summaries in Writing class. For Touchpebbles on Friday we will use The Children's Book of Virtues; A letter from F. Scott Fitzgerald to his daughter to discuss the virtue of responsibility.
1.    History: Students will review for Tuesday’s quiz on the Southern Colonies with a game of BINGO, and students can also review with the following Quizlet link (https://quizlet.com/_3e535n). On Thursday we will move on to familiar territory as we begin a deeper study of the Pilgrims and their journey on the Mayflower.
1.    Math: We have finished our unit on length and will now move on to weight, once again starting with the metric system: grams, kilograms, and the like. There is no homework scheduled for Wednesday, as our spring concert will take place that night.
1.    Science:  This week we will be completing a fun activity to demonstrate the lunar cycle using Oreos!  Additionally, we will be watching some fun videos to reinforce concepts we have been learning in this unit.  On Friday (the 28th) students will be receiving a study guide that will be due on Wednesday (the 3rd).  The quiz will be on Friday.  Please use the following quizlet link to help your students prepare for this assessment: https://quizlet.com/_3dy83p.  The Science projects are due on Monday, May 8th.  We can’t wait to see these fun and creative projects.

Quarter 4 Week 5

Hello Parents!

Here we are at the middle of the last quarter of the year. AZMerit is now a thing of the past and we can finish our year strong together. In May we will have a few activities planned on Wednesdays that embrace the spirit of "schole," or the leisure and joy of learning. Please be on the lookout for more communications on that soon! Our upcoming 4 day weekend is R&R, I wish you all a happy and relaxing break.

A Look in the Classroom

  1. Language Arts: We will have a 20 word spelling list due to the short week. Grammar will consist of a close review of parts of speech and a look ahead to the diagramming skills that they will see next year. We are still enjoying The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as Aslan teaches Edmund (and us!) about forgiveness.
  2. Math: We will continue our study of the metric system, culminating in a quiz on centimeters, meters, and kilometers on Thursday. Look out for a “Test B” packet to help students prepare! Friday is Field Trip Day, which means we will have a relatively short lesson reviewing length in yards, feet, and inches.
  3. History: Students will learn about the Starving Time - the most difficult period in Jamestown’s early history, which was soon followed by a surge of prosperity. We will also discuss the true story of Pocahontas, and work on an in-class mural of Jamestown’s founding and settling.
  4. Science:  This week we will be diving into the Earth, Moon, and Sun system.  We will discuss the relationships between these three important objects and how we experience day/night and years here on Earth!
Assessments
  1. Thursday - Math Test
  2. Friday - Spelling Test

Please do reach out with any questions you may have!

Quarter 4 Week 4

Hello Parents!

I hope you're all doing well! 😊 Here is a look at next week.

Announcements
  1. Friday, April 21st will be our field trip to the MIM! There is no cost thanks to you and your generous tax credit donations! Please send your student's permission slip back by Thursday, April 13th. If you are interested in chaperoning the trip, please email me directly and I will place your name in the lottery.
A Look in the Classroom
  1. Language Arts - We will have a 20 word spelling list this week due to the 4 day week. In Grammar we are working on dictation sentences while learning a bit more about the ancient world! We will continue to identify and diagram compound subjects and compound verbs. We are travelling deeper into Narnia and discussing how Aslan can be king, while the White Witch rules over the land.
  2. History: This week we begin the unit that we will focus on for the remainder of the quarter: the founding and creation of the American colonies! We'll begin by identifying the original colonies, then dive into the first English settlement, Jamestown in Virginia, and the history behind the establishment of the fort.
  3. Math: This week we will continue our study of meters and centimeters, particularly how to add and subtract the two units separately and as compound units. We will have a fun math centers day on Wednesday!
  4. Science:  This week we will continue our study of the planets by participating in a fun reader’s theater activity.  A study guide will be sent home on Monday for a short quiz on the planets that will take place on Thursday.  The study guide will be due on Wednesday.  Please use the following quizlet link to help students prepare for this assessment: https://quizlet.com/_3bfuzh
