Week 4

Dearest 3C Parents and Families,

We had a wonderful and productive week in 3C!  I got the opportunity to read and discuss Pinocchio with the students this week while Mrs. Geyer was helping in another classroom.  We had such a wonderful conversation about virtues and why Pinocchio was not setting the best example!  We have continued to work hard at multiplication and long division this week.  At this point we have learned all of our facts 1-8 and 10.  Continue practicing multiplication facts at home.  I hope you all have a wonderful 3-day weekend.  I am so excited for the Winter Concert next week.  It is always such a joyous and entertaining event.  As a heads up there will be no homework that evening so everyone can enjoy the concert!  Please reach out with any questions at any time. :)

Best,

Mrs. Bowers

Science:  This week we are continuing to develop our knowledge of the skeletal system.  The students will be learning about the major bones in the body.  The will come home with a study guide for a quiz on the major bones on Monday.  The quiz will be next Monday, the 21st. In addition, students will learn about the difference between the axial and appendicular skeleton, how to take care of bones, and what bones are made of. Finally, we will be creating a large model of the human skeleton, which is sure to be a blast!

ELA: In Language Arts we are reviewing the 4 sentences types and will have a short quiz on Tuesday. We’re continuing on our journey with Pinocchio as he keeps encountering blue characters! Our poetry selection from Julius Caesar highlights our Rome unit beautifully and we will have a 30 word Spalding list.

Math: Students will continue their focus of their multiplication facts with the 8's and the 9's. Thank you for all you've done to help your scholar with their multiplication mastery; we've heard flash cards have been a big help, and Quizlet has many different quizzes that you can use to help your student practice when time allows. Continuing to practice these facts will be beneficial as students apply their knowledge to bar model problems.

History: We dive right into the mythological stories of the founding of Rome, noting how the myth of Romulus and Remus compares to what historians believe are the true roots of ancient Rome. In the second half of the week, students will learn more about the complex pantheon of Roman gods and goddesses, many of which they may recognize from last year's Greece unit, and will get to participate in a Gods and Goddesses Scavenger Hunt!

Assessments
Tuesday- Grammar
Friday- Spelling
