Dear Parents,

I am so sorry for getting this out so late this week.  The third grade team had it prepared early last week, but then it slipped my mind on Friday.  I apologize.

Best,

Mrs. Bowers

Announcements
1.    The 3rd grade team wants to experiment with using the Quizlet app to help students study for tests, we have created quizzes to help students review vocabulary terms for our upcoming Rivers and Grammar quizzes. Please note that these do not entirely replace the study guide as we have only added vocabulary terms. Quizlet gives students a few different ways to review; it’s easy to give your kiddo your phone while they're in the backseat on the way to school to do a quick flashcard review, I speak from experience! :) Please let me know if you have questions. Grammar Quizlet can be found here and Rivers Quizlet can be found here.
2.    Please note that there is no school on Friday, November 11th.
A Look in the Classroom
1.    Language Arts: We will have a 20 word Spalding list due to the shortened week. In Grammar we are reviewing predicate nominatives closely and identifying the 4 sentence types. We are creating summaries on the myth of Romulus and Remus to support our rich History unit. We are laughing and crying over the adventures of poor Pinocchio in Literature class and making many text to self connections. Our poetry selection for the months of November and December is the speech from Julius Caesar, each scholar was sent home with a copy. Please note that recitation for this selection will be whole group.
2.    Science: This week we are beginning our human body unit! We will begin by briefly going over cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems. Then we will begin our first system, the skeletal system. This week will be full out note taking and using small pictures to learn and remember the important vocabulary terms for this week. In the coming weeks we will have many fun hands-on activities and we will be learning many of the major bones in the human body.
3.    Math: Students will continue their work on multiplication and division, moving on to the 7’s math facts. Please continue to review multiplication facts with your scholars at home; knowing these facts are a huge step in mastering these concepts! There will be a mini-quiz on Thursday covering 6’s and 7’s multiplication facts.
4.    History: On Monday there will be a quiz of our rivers unit. Scholars are coming home with a study guide today; please review vocabulary with them! On Tuesday we will begin the unit everyone has been waiting for: ancient Rome! Our first order of business will be to help students understand when and where in history we will be studying, focusing on timelines and the founding location of Rome. We are so excited to get started!
