Dear 3C Parents and Families,

Winter break is upon us!  I had such a great week with your scholars.  We all enjoyed getting a chance to see everyone's beautiful work on their Pinocchio projects.  We have also been enjoying our math unit on probability, a fun change from the months of work on long division.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Best,

Mrs. Bowers

Announcements

  1. Please send your scholar to school with a sturdy bag, reusable grocery bags work best. We will be using these to hold all of the supplies in their desks over break to make some room for cleaning. 😊
  2. Winter Break is R & R and rightfully so! 3C has extended so much love and hard work into our studies this year, we've discussed the great value of rest with our loved ones. I will be sending home a winter break reading challenge next week that is entirely optional.
  3. Our Rome celebration is on Tuesday, December 20th, the sign up can be found here.
  4. We will begin quarter 2 with The Trumpet of the Swan, please send your scholar to school with their copy. I have just recently come into several copies of the book so if your scholar needs to borrow one of mine, please just let me know.
  5. Class wish list items include: Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, paper towels, and tissue. If anyone is able to send their scholar in with these items upon our return from break I would be most grateful.
A Look in the Classroom
  1. Language Arts: With our Pinocchio journey at an end, we will spend some time enjoying the classic fairy tale Hansel and Gretel next week. We will review parts of speech with a fun winter activity and create original skits with snowmen as our main characters. You will not see Spalding homework next week as we will use the last 3 days of the semester to review words from past spelling tests and lend some time to phonogram review.
  2. Science: Our last week of quarter 2 will be spent enjoying further discussion on bones and muscles. This review will be highlighted with a fun video.
  3. History: Next week we will have our second quiz for our Rome unit. Students will receive a short study guide on Monday and will take the quiz on Tuesday. There is also a Quizlet available; click here to access it. (Similar to our last history test, we suggest using the flashcard feature with the definitions being prompted first.) We are very excited for our Roman feast and celebration; it's always such a blast to see the kiddos walking around in their togas!
  4. Math: Students received a study guide this past Wednesday to help them prepare for Monday's cumulative assessment. This will provide good preparation, so please help your scholar along! We will finish off the semester with fun and laughter, playing math games that reflect everything we have learned so far.
Assessments
  1. Monday: Math Test
  2. Tuesday: Rome Quiz
