Dear Parents,

It was so lovely to see you all during parent teacher conferences this week.  If we had any follow up action items I will do my best to get that information out to you by Tuesday.  We had a great week in 3C, though it was different with our half-day schedules!  I am looking forward to getting back to an almost normal week schedule next week.  On that note, please remember that there is no school on Monday October 19th.

Here is what is coming up next week!

Assessments:

Tuesday-none
Wednesday-none
Thursday-Math Test (multiplication and division word problems with bar models)
Friday- Spalding Assessment

Subjects:

Literature: This week we will be starting Pinocchio! We will be reading the first 6 chapters.  The students are really excited to begin our new unit.  Please make sure your student brings in their copy by Tuesday, if they haven’t already.

Spalding:

This week we will be learning 20 words since we have a 4-day week.  Please make sure your student is practicing these words every night in preparation of Friday’s assessment.

Poetry:

We are learning a a portion of a poem from Macbeth this week (Act 4, Scene 1).  The poem will come home in the students folder’s on Monday.  Poetry recitations are coming up quick: Friday August 30th.  I am confident that the students will fine, as this is a shorter poem, but make sure you are practicing with them nightly.

Grammar/Writing:

We will be working on summarizing more stories from our “Story of the World” curriculum.  We will be reading about Ancient Sumer and the story of Abraham from the Bible. We will also be working on our use of adjectives this week!

History:

We will be continuing the unit we began last week on rivers of the world.  This is our last full week of the rivers unit.  There will be a test in week 3.  If you would like to get ahead on the study process have your child bring home their packet and review a bit each night.

Science:

We will be starting our next unit on the human body this week!  We will be starting with cells, tissues, and organs.  I am positive the students will love this next unit!

Math:

We are continuing to practice multiplication and division bar models with our 2,3,4,5, and 10 facts.  We will have a quiz on Thursday.  On Friday we will begin learning how to multiply 10s and 100s by a 1-digit number.
